Documentary Filmmaker, Professor, and Author
Olga Sommerová is a renowned documentarian and author, focusing on themes of recent history and feminism. In 1977, she graduated from the documentary department of the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague. She taught at FAMU between 1991 and 2002. She has been the chair of the Academic Senate at FAMU since 1992. She taught at the Academy of Arts in Bánská Bystrica from 2005 to 2009. Sommerová has written three best-selling books based on her film What Women Dream About and a standalone book: What Men Dream About? Sommerová filmed more than one hundred movies and received over forty awards for them at festivals at home and abroad. Some recent awards include the TRILOBIT 2013, the Golden Kingfisher Final Plzeň 2013, Best Documentary Award at MIDA Shanghai 2013, 2.place ATLANT, Lipetsk, Russia 2013, The Crystal Globe, and the Viewers Award on the 49th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
