Journalist focused on Central Europe and Ukraine, Media Entrepreneur, and LGBTQ Advocate
As a well-known English-speaking journalist, Maxim Eristavi has provided coverage of Ukraine’s political and social unrest since the 2013 Euromaidan protests. In 2014, Eristavi co-founded Hromadske International, an independent start-up news outlet that provides high-quality journalism, new media tools, and superb analysis on Ukrainian news, and counters Russian propaganda about Ukraine. His work has not only covered Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the subsequent proxy war in Eastern Ukraine, but also LGBTI issues in Eastern and Central Europe. Eristavi, who is one of few openly gay journalists in Ukraine, has been an outspoken voice for LGBTI Civic Rights in the region. In 2015, Eristavi was a Yale Poynter Fellow in Journalism.
