Jan Mela

Physically Challenged World Adventurer and Advocate

After losing his right arm and leg in an accident at age thirteen, Jan Mela did not give up his passions for adventure hiking. In 2004, he became the first physically challenged and the youngest person to reach both the North and South poles. He later organized expeditions to Elbrus and Kilimanjaro and ran the New York Marathon. He recently became an ambassador for World Youth Day, which will take place at the end of July in Krakow. He is committed to advocacy work for physically challenged people, who he likes to remind of his motto: “Impossible is only in your head!”
