Economist and Czech Public Intellectual
Ilona Švihlíková is a standout Czech economist who focuses on international economy, the impacts of globalization. She also focuses studies commodity markets (particularly the oil market) and connections between economics and politics, particularly on the issue of taxes. Švihlíková has published work around the world, including Slovakia, Germany, Russia, Poland, Austria, and the UK. She is a broadcaster on the radio station Dvojka in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 2010, she founded the citizen initiative, Alternativa Zdola, which support the involvement of citizens in public issues and economic equality. She is the author of Globalization and Crisis and Přelom – od Velké recese k Velké transformaci (The Turning Point – From the Great Recession to the Great Transformation).
