Young and Acclaimed British Author
Despite her age, Helen Oyeyemi is among the most praised British prose writers of this era. She wrote five novels, the first one while still in high school. She wrote her two plays during her studies of politics at Cambridge. Her body of work has been characterised by her interest in legends, myths and fantastical imagination since the release of her first novel, The Icarus Girl. Her second novel, The Opposite House, is strongly influenced by Cuban mythology. Her subsequent novel, White Is for Witching, is a love letter to Edgar Allan Poe (she received the Somerset Maugham award for this novel). 2011 saw the release of her novel, Mr Fox, and three years later came her most critically successful novel, Boy, Snow, Boy.
